“We affirm biblical, traditional, natural marriage as the uniting of one man and one woman in covenant commitment for a lifetime,” wrote Ronnie Floyd, president of the Southern Baptist Convention. I am in agreement with him & the 16 former presidents of the SBC who signed his statement expressing our affirmation of traditional marriage and disapproval of the Supreme Court’s decision to advocate same-sex marriage.
As we approach America’s birthday and the celebration of independence this 4th of July, we must remember that God predicates his blessing of nations upon His terms (Deut 30:17). Yet, even as we sin, God offers a way back. “If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land” (2 Chron 7:14).
Daniel prayed a similar prayer for his generation, “We do not make requests of you because we are righteous, but because of your great mercy. O Lord, listen! O Lord, forgive! O Lord, hear and act! For your sake, O my God, do not delay, because your city and your people bear your Name.” (Dan 9:18-19)
